Actor and Producer Swen Temmel is a star on the rise. Born in Austria, Swen moved to the United States with his parents in 1997. Growing up, Swen learned his tireless work ethic working at his parent’s iconic ice cream shop in Venice Beach, Charly Temmel Ice Cream. After graduating from Malibu High School in 2009, Swen studied acting, completing the prestigious two-year conservatory program at The Lee Strasberg Institute and the Shakespeare program at Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts in London.
Swen won his first Daytime Emmy® in 2020 as a Producer for The Bay (Outstanding Digital Drama Series), on which he also appears as the sinister Logan.
Last week, Swen completed his first lead role opposite screen legend and box office powerhouse Bruce Willis in the highly-anticipated action-thriller Killing Field. That will be released worldwide this fall.
After filming was complete, I had the opportunity to interview Swen and discuss his career both in front and behind the camera:
How is your character Cal in Killing Field different from your character Logan in The Bay? Playing Cal gave me the opportunity to play the good cop and someone with good intentions. The exact opposite of my character Logan on The Bay. It is a nice change of pace being able to play characters with completely different motivations. Kristos Andrews, who plays the eternally good Pete Garrett on The Bay is in Killing Fields as Michael, one of the villains.
How did you prepare for your role in Killing Field? With Cal, he is broken, and he is the lead cop alongside Bruce Willis. Cal rushes into situations, has had enough, I’ve drawn from other characters played in the past, and created flawed past for him.
What will we see you in next? Washing Me in River with Robert De Niro and John Malkovich, Midnight in the Switchgrass with Megan Fox, Emile Hirsch, and Bruce Willis, and Axis Sally with Al Pacino.
What is your dream role? Playing a spy like James Bond.
What is your favorite city? Graz, Austria.
What is your favorite food? Pasta.
What is your favorite season? Summer.
What is your favorite color? Blue.
